Success built during tough times11 April 2022
Starting a new business in a new town was an innovative move for Angela Chamberlain when Joseph Taylor Homewares opened in January 2020. However, things came to an abrupt halt just three months later with the imposition of the nationwide lockdown. Still with overheads to pay and stock en route from Bali, this was a particularly trying time. While many businesses failed to survive, two years of uncertainty only served to strengthen Angela's resolve to succeed with what she saw as a service essential to a growing town. This resolve instigated a recent move from the outer area into the Village where Joseph Taylor now occupies the former Pipi Gallery premises, forming a small but select precinct alongside other new businesses, and Angela acknowledges the efforts of her team in effecting the move. Proudly displaying the Joseph Taylor Homewares name, the building lends itself well to the range of products within, which has grown considerably from its inception. While obviously aware of costs Angela says “we are now able to focus more on the needs of the customer and now source product from around the globe.” “The new premises has atmosphere, has easier access and is better situated to service the increased traffic flow in and around the village,” she adds. “People are embracing this new found freedom, albeit gradual, and we are enjoying the obvious upswing of movement as things move back to some normality. “We are finding that many people during lockdown have realised their homes need some refreshing so are looking for things like mats, mirrors, glassware, lamps or funky objet d'art to liven things up a little. Then those moving into new homes may be after bigger items of furniture, indoor and outdoor, or something a little more contemporary.” Given her design background, Angela and her team now offer a home staging service which has attracted some interest in an area which has maintained strong real estate movement. With the ability to furnish or enhance any room in your home, Joseph Taylor Homewares is well worth a little of your time to stop and browse. You'll probably stay longer than intended.
