Mangawhai BowlsIn a show of strength from the Mangawhai Bowling Club, a busload of bowlers arrived at the Kamo (Whangarei) greens for the Northland Bowls Coaches Association fundraising tournament last week.
Mangawhai fielded 12 of the 32 teams of mixed fours teams. “We don’t stack teams, we just draw straws and have a bit if fun as we have a lot of juniors and first year players so it’s good for them to get some more experience under match conditions,” says Mangawhai organizer Paul Freeman. As evidence of the popularity of local bowls the club had 23 first-year players last year and the same number this season Pictured at the Kamo event is junior Mangawhai bowler Irene Donaldson. |
