Givealittle appeal to help save our beachesThe Stop Sandmining–Save Our Beaches community movement has created an enormous wave of local awareness and concern over the irreversible environmental impacts commercial sand mining would inflict to our coastal beaches. Three sand mining consents are being sought by Auckland companies to maintain their market share with the production of cement for the Auckland building industry. If granted, no coastline in the world could withstand the environmental devastation that these consents would create. The most commonly asked question from our community has been ”How can I help?” To ensure our community can mount a highly effective opposition to the mining consents being granted, the Mangawhai Harbour Restoration Society has organised a Givealittle fundraising campaign called ´Sand Taonga’. Your donation will help support legal, scientific and environmental experts to provide the irrefutable evidence required to stop the destruction of our coastal, marine and recreational environments, not to mention the commercial impact on our region. Beaches need to be preserved for future generations, like Mangawhai’s Delylah Dukes, pictured above, who is making her feelings known.
