Photography group developing quicklyJULIA WADE

A large turnout at the first Mangawhai Snappers Photography Group meeting of the year shows the informal club, which has been active for just under a year, is more than just a flash in the pan. Held at the Mangawhai Fishing Club on February 7, Grant Crowe, who co-formed ‘Snappers’ with Barbara Jacomb in April 2022, says the group has gone from strength to strength. “Photography is a wide-ranging subject and a great deal of the success comes from our enthusiastic team of Snappers along with their ideas and ours combined,” Grant says. “‘Fun then photography’ is the groups motto, and unlike most of the photography clubs worldwide, we do not judge anyone on their work, we prefer calling ourselves a group to a club.” Based on a fortnightly program prepped in advance, regular workshops are held both inside and outside of the Fishing Club, along with organised outings, sunrise photo shoots and video tutorials. The creative results are shown on a big screen every fortnight and are also featured in the Mangawhai Focus. Homework assignments are also set between meetings which the group enjoy immensely Grant says. “Whether you have a mobile phone or a digital camera, a 35mm camera, a rank amateur or an advanced photographer, we welcome you to the group, young or old. The idea is to gather a community of like-minded people with a genuine interest in photography. Bring along your camera and we’ll get to know each other.” n For more information contact mangawhaisnappers@gmail.com or message Grant Crowe 021 259 6679.
