Homeware is where the heart is

thumbnail Angela Chamberlain-117Small southern town girl Angela Chamberlain has a wide repertoire of talents, from hair and fashion to make-up and photography, and interior decorating. After a decade in Auckland she again sought the solace and community spirit of a small town and after bringing her sons Seth and Jackson here for the past five years to the skate park and beach, a little over a year ago found home here in Mangawhai. Her homeware brand, Joseph Taylor, is a combination of the boys’ middle names.

A woman who has ‘got to have a project’ Angela saw an opening in a growing Mangawhai for a furniture outlet so on New Year’s Day opened Joseph Taylor Homeware on Mangawhai Heads road in the former Orang Otang Lasercut building, next to Mexican food caravan Gringas.

Mangawhai has undergone considerable growth in recent years and new homes need new furniture, and baches need livening up from time to time, so Ange has opened with a wide and interesting array of furniture hand-picked from South East Asia and Bali which covers most areas of home-making – inside and out – both functional and decorative.

The majority are one-off items from settees, cushions, fabulous decorative urns, brass ornaments, throws, lanterns, shell chandeliers, interior decor and art work.

There is a possibility that Ange will hold theme evenings at a later stage in keeping with her experience, such as interior design, colour and planning.

“We are here to become a part of Mangawhai, grow with it and see what eventuates,” she says. “There has been a steady flow of people since we opened,” says Angela, happy with early sales and good comments, “but this is just a start, and with enquiries and feedback from customers our range of stock will gradually morph into what is most popular.”

Angela says of this fast growing small community, the range will keep changing so as not to repeat some of the special pieces.

“We may look at Mexico and Morocco interiors to keep things fresh and interesting in the future.”

Joseph Taylor Homeware signage will be up shortly and there is ample off-road parking. For more details, see advertisement this page.

Angela Chamberlain is planning to become part of Mangawhai and grow her business with it.
