Museum completes first full financial yearIn welcoming the gathering to the recent Mangawhai Museum Annual General Meeting, chairperson Christine Bygrave produced an in-depth report on the first full year of operation.
As such, and being a new entity, the combination of the museum, Jessie’s Cafe and the gift shop proved challenging with no past history to build from. It was also a first for newly appointed museum manager Emma Gray whose marketing background has been given a good workout in co-ordinating the various parts of the multi-faceted operation. Working closely with the fundraising team, and display committee assessing what works best and plotting a course for the future will be an ongoing task, not only for the work involved but also with an eye on the budget. The necessity to maintain new and interesting displays is paramount to attracting visitors and apart from historical events, today’s Mangawhai also has a lot to offer, especially in regard to the prominence of art in the community. Mrs Bygrave expressed the importance of putting forward ideas that could benefit the museum and the community at large and was high in her praise of the many volunteers and members who collectively give freely of their time and knowledge in keeping the wheels turning. A true community effort. Those interested in the full performance report should contact the museum direct. Board members retiring: Peter O’Hara, Bryan Clark, Reno Skipper, Howard Johnston, Joanne Naish Board members elected: Chairperson Christine Bygrave, Howard Johnston (reelected), Joanne Naish (reelected), Hazel Kaio, Peter Nicholas, Grant Mitchell. |
