Making waves with Aotearoa SurfWe have been blessed with an amazing swell every day from Christmas until now providing fantastic surfing for all levels and Te Arai performing well with great banks, says Aotearoa Surf guru Che Burnett.
This year the Illuminate 2019 scout jamboree was held in Kaiwaka with over 400 scouts enjoying the waters of Mangawhai and Te Arai. Morning kids programmes have been super successful. “Its always good and a lot of fun bringing new groms to the sport,” says Che “and our final kids summer surf programme is January 21 with four mornings of surfing.” However there is still limited space for latecomers. The Ultimate Kids Summer Surf Camp starts this Sunday and is fully sold out. Believed to be the first of its kind in New Zealand, the event comprises five nights at the awesome adventure ground at Moir Point camp teachng kids to camp, waterslide, do yoga, paddleboard and have camp style adventures. A big shout out to 20-year-old international instructor Andrew Robertson, who, on a working holiday with Aotearoa Surf came to the rescue of Craig Walters who was hammered by his first wave, lost his board and was stuck in a rip tide. Taking what he thought would be his last breath Robertson grabbed him and pulled him to his board. Water safety and confidence is a high priority at Aotearoa Surf. Aotearoa surf would love to see you out on the water. All you ladies out there wanting to build your confidence or learn to surf check out Surf Sisters. All welcome, get in touch. |
