Quartet experience for all agesCountry Homestead at Black Sheep Farm is delighted to announce another House Concert, as part of the Villani Piano Quartet’s 2019 Northland tour – an afternoon of fine chamber music.
The group is the result of previous collaborations between the four players in various combinations and come together to present the unique richness of the piano quartet experience, and promote chamber music to audiences of all ages. Piano quartet denotes a chamber music composition for piano and three other instruments, in this case Italian Flavio Villani on piano, Scot Sarah Spence with cello, Macedonian Marko Pop Ristov on violin, and New Zealand’s Helen Bevin playing viola. With their wide international experience, playing clarity, expression and balance, this promises to be an exciting concert with some of the best works of the repertoire: Mahler's only chamber music work with its haunting melodies, an indulgence in Spanish harmonies with the piano quartet by Turina, and NZ premier of the thrilling piano quartet by Vasks. “This tour we are premiering the epic work that is Vasks' piano quartet,” says violinist Marko Pop Ristov. “Soaring, heart wrenching melodies are interspersed with Latvian folk-inspired rhythms. Programmed alongside the deliciously dark Mahler piano quartet and the uplifting, Spanish-French cocktail Turina, there is something new and something fun for everyone.” This promises to be a unique opportunity to experience a high calibre quartet in an intimate location.
