Despite the close proximity to the beach it is becoming more common for homeowners to build their own swimming pools in the region. It is timely then that pool technician Pete Jonas has recently moved to Mangawhai. Pete has almost five years experience in the business and will operate under the banner of Poolside North as service technician/agent for brand names such as Ultimate Pools, Hayward, Waterco, Filtermaster and Zodiac pools and accessories.

Pete is the go-to man for advice on purchasing, installations, preparation, service and repair, and is also fully conversant with water balance, chemical advice and cleaning techniques. Ultimate Pools have a unique self-cleaning system where maintenance is considerably reduced. Gone are the days when pool owners spent hours vacuuming their pools. “Revitalising your pool after winter still takes some time,” explains Pete.

“Throwing a handful of chemical in to kill the green and turning on the filter after being idle over several winter months is no longer acceptable especially given health considerations. Owners realise their equipment and swimming pools are significant investments and require special care and treatment. It cannot just be done overnight or when the sun peeps through.” Pool owners need to be aware of the need to prepare their pools well ahead of summer to get the best use of their asset.

A pool is no longer just a concrete trough in the ground and many are now incorporated with new building projects as a part of their landscaping plan and can greatly enhance the value of a property if planned well. Over the summer, when pools experience high usage, having a local technician available will mean timely assistance with crystal clear, sparkling, healthy pools for their families to enjoy. There are many residential pools in the Mangawhai area and Pete says there are many more on order over the summer so it’s handy to have an experienced serviceman 
living locally offering city standard service but without the travel and time wastage.
