Learn the art of community engagement

Kaipara District Council presents a unique opportunity for civic and community minded businesses, individuals or groups to learn more about developing ideas and tools for successful community projects.

Now, more than ever, communities need to work together to build trust and inclusivity. Today’s civic challenges demand new models for collaboration and leadership. Powerful, inspiring and meaningful community engagement takes time, skill and practice.

Pomegranate Center offers the tools and structure to make this work easier and more successful. Their trainings give confidence in facilitation skills, competency around community process and a deeper understanding of the importance of a creative and collaborative approach to all things community.

In this introduction to the Pomegranate Method to be held at the Paparoa War Memorial Hall early next month, guests will learn how to fully engage communities in a productive and creative process while creating broad ownership over your projects. Each training is a combination of lecture, practice and discussion led by the dynamic founder of Pomegranate Center, Milenko Matanovic.
The training will cover:

• How to care for an early idea for a community project
• When to engage the community and what to ask them
• What to do when challenging behaviors threaten collaboration
• Facilitation techniques that are inclusive and decisive
• Translate public input into solutions quickly and collectively
• And so much more!

Based in Seattle, Washington, Pomegranate Center training is designed to strengthen communities through supporting community-based collaborative culture. They specialise in training and mentoring individuals and agencies in building lasting, effective community engagement strategies.

 Pomegranate Method Training, Oct 8, 9.30am - 4pm, Paparoa War Memorial Hall, Paparoa Valley Road. Light Lunch provided. No cost, but registration essential. Registration closes Sept 28. Contact Gail Fotheringham, Community & Recreation Advisor at Kaipara District Council, gfotheringham@kaipara.govt.nz or 021 434 228.
