Popularity sees Walking Weekend numbers upThe 17th annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend had a bit of everything. The event got off to a cracking start on Friday April 1 with the Troubadour Walk. Participants raved in their reviews over the standard of the performers who entertained.
Overall almost 600 walkers participated in the walking events and almost 900 enjoyed a slightly soggy afternoon at the Food and Wine event. Research recently published has shown that walking is now New Zealand’s number one participation sporting activity, and so it is not surprising that this Mangawhai event continues to prove so popular with both regular and new guests – or that the format is now being replicated in other parts of New Zealand. A big thank you to all families who hosted events on their properties, to the local businesses who got behind the event in various ways and to the Domain for hosting. A special thank you to all the local volunteers who gave up their time, either in planning activities, preparing tracks or looking after our guests over the weekend. The review of 2016 is underway and planning for future events starts later this month. So if you have an idea or wish to be involved please contact me, Dorothy, on (09) 431 5950.
