MAZs aMAZing gymAnother method to get fit and healthy before the outdoor days of summer arrive, has recently opened for business.
Catering to all ages and fitness levels, Mangawhai Activity Zone’s (MAZ) outdoor gymnasium has now been completed after construction began in June. MAZ committee member Ken Rayward says the latest addition has broadened the park's activities to cater more for adults. “It’s created tremendous community interest,” he says. “The gym layout links to the extensive bush walking and jogging tracks as well as the three new pump bike tracks which are still under construction.” The gym has 12 workout stations including vertical climbs, balance beams, press-up bars and a scaling wall. Professional input was provided by Aaron Mcllwee, co-owner and fitness instructor of local gym, Fit 365, to ensure the layout and flow allow for an optimal experience for all ages and fitness levels. Plaques are placed next to each workout station demonstrating how to use each piece of equipment. “This is a $60,000 addition to this highly loved Mangawhai treasure,” Rayward says. “With $30,000 being raised from community donations and grants, plus $20,000 from the Mangawhai Endowment Land Account and $10,000 from Pub Charities, MAZ wants to extend their thanks and appreciation to all involved.” The gym will play a part in the upcoming MAZ Active Day on October 22, Labour Weekend, an afternoon encouraging everyone to try out different fitness activities at the Zone as well as have a whole lot fun! Everyone is welcome. PREMIUM EQUIPMENT: Ryan Archer, Project Manager for Playco, tests Mangawhai Activity Zone's outdoor gymnasium.
