Dianne walks the talkMake-A-Wish was a welcome recipient and Dianne Christensen a willing walking fundraiser on November 25, bringing the foundation to prominence with a 17 kilometre walk around the outskirts of Mangawhai and ending at the Mangawhai Tavern Markets.
Supporters made donations in cash or on the Givealittle internet page and several spot prizes were donated by market stallholders. “I was rapt with my walk,” said Dianne, knowing the weather forecast was ominous for such an undertaking. “It started out a bit drizzly when I left home but not cold, then it came clear, but poured after I finished!” A stellar effort beginning at 6.30am, Dianne finished her walk in 2h 27m. “I was thrilled with all the support. My lovely friend Sandra Brunt met me halfway with liquid sustenance and encouragement, and my hubby Robbie met me as I arrived at the Mangawhai Tavern market with a change of clothes,” she adds. Prizewinner for guessing closest to the time was Maggie Cameron being just seven minutes out and who got to enjoy a basket of goodies from Vintage Deli. Raylee Campbell was next and is going to be indulged with a massage from Tara Retreat, and Ryan Moffat gets to relax at Oasis Bar & Eatery with a $50 voucher. Spot prizes were also given out. “I didn’t feel too bad afterward,” said Dianne “and popped home for a quick spa but I noticed some soreness in my feet the next day and was much slower with my usual walk next morning. Strangely enough I enjoyed it but would not want to walk that distance every day.” A valiant effort and $1725 from 37 generous donors for Make-A-Wish. Local real estate identity Dianne Christensen pushes on to the finish of her 17km fundraising walk. |
