Modern technology used to create wood product rangeSince 2003 Orang Otang have been noted for their treeworks: felling, pruning, cleaning up storm damage and more recently, milling.
They have now turned to utilising much of what would once be considered waste to better effect, using laser technology to create a range of furniture, tables, toys, garden art and gift items. This range of Kiwiana is displayed in a newly-opened laser cut shop on their Mangawhai Heads Rd premises. Operators Regan and Rochelle Davies both agree: "In a world of throwaway, fast-moving goods, we're creating earthy, organic products that last. But we've taken it a step further too!” Every hand made piece is etched with a special message, corporate branding, or just accentuating the beautiful imagery of different woods showing character versatility and functionality to best effect. They are justifiably proud of their products fashioned from rimu, kauri, matai, macrocarpa, gum and some imported bamboo, and mainly from cuts which would have previously been discarded. Gifts can be inscribed with pictures and/or logos, a name plate for your property, something different for a wall or a special piece of garden art and, of course, being wood, it is bio-degradable at the end of its useful life. Staff can advise how to maintain your wooden products, what oils to use that are food friendly (eg chopping or cheese boards) and will enhance the look and prolong the life of your products. Check out the website lasercutdesigns.co.nz or call Rochelle for something special to keep or something for someone special at Christmas. |
