New Safer Speed Zone coming to MangawhaiKaipara District Council has confirmed a new speed limit for a section of the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai Road (displayed in the image attached).
Consultation occurred in October 2018 on this particular section of road after requests to examine the speed limits in the Long Term Plan consultation. The response from the community relating to the lowering of the speed limit was overwhelmingly positive. The road section under review was assessed and new limits have been proposed on the basis of safety risk, the road environment including land development, speed limits on adjoining roads and any changes on those roads since original speed limits were set. Council also took into account new national rules and guidelines for speed limits administered by the NZ Transport Agency. “The Tara Road and Moir Street speed review is part of a wider speed management review process under the Government’s Safer Journeys programme,” says Acting Roading Manager, Bernard Petersen. “This programme aims to create a safe road system, increasingly free of death and serious injury. The speed management review process seeks to better match speed with the road environment. In the case of Tara Road and Moir Street, the new lower speed limit better matches the changes in the road environment in that area, including increased residential land uses, and more cyclists and pedestrians.” Further areas will be under review, with opportunities for the public to have their say in 2019. The new speed limit takes effect from Thursday December 20, 2018. Community response, continued risk asessment and new national guidelines sees some speed limit changes in Mangawhai. - GRAPHIC/Supplied |
