The Village Wines OpensA nondescript building in the area encompassed by The Dune Restaurant and the Pipi Gallery opened without fanfare last weekend but word of mouth spread steadily to announce the arrival of The Village Wines. Evan King, host of Wood Street Free House, saw an opening for something more in the boutique style.
“As is the case with food, our tastes are changing. It’s the same for wines and beverages. We have seen that with the advent of craft beers for example,” he says. He reports a steady stream of customers and great customer feedback, especially in regard to pricing and the variety of wines and spirits on offer. “We were in a race against time to get all our Council approvals, signage up and systems in place but everything fell into place in time to be fully operational before opening,” he added. The Village Wines brings a fresh boutique look to Mangawhai with an eclectic range of wines, craft beers and spirits stocking one of the biggest selections of bubbles and Rose wines in the north. A range of wines both local, from Matakana and also South Otago and Waiheke should have appeal to the most discerning palate. Pricing is competitive, the range is different, offering fresh choices and also a range of French cheeses. If you want to compare wine outlets, then The Village Wines is just the same – only different. |
