Food journey inspires unique bookAn ‘adventure cookbook’ is a new genre, but this new release tells a story that stretches from London to Northland, and from baclava to pavlova.
Great recipes are only part of the journey of local restaurateur Lloyd Rooney who, despite spending time among many of the rich and famous in Paris and Europe, has found his niche in northern New Zealand. The Quay to the Cove relates to The Quay Restaurant, at Whangarei’s Town Basin, and the Waipu Cove Cafe. It is the story told by Lloyd, and written by Auckland freelance journo Lindy Davis, who is also a part-time resident of Waipu Cove, with photography by Lloyd’s brother Grant who made the trip from the UK for the project. The story, while ultimately about food, relates Lloyd’s journey to initially ‘finding food’, his growing attachment to it, and ultimately his share in a Kiwi beef farm, which currently plays an important part in the day-to-day business that is now three local restaurants including The Dune at Mangawhai. ‘The Quay to The Cove: Coastal Cuisine, is a good read, a great Christmas stocking-filler or a worthy addition to any bench-top library of recipe books and can be bought from any of the restaurants or your favourite bookshop. STORY: Author Lindy Davis and subject Lloyd Rooney signing books for eager readers. |
