Hey girls, get into golf! While the Mangawhai golf course continues to rise in popularity on a national basis, the major growth internally has been that of the women’s section.
Geraldine Speed initiated a move some two years ago to attract more women players, either those returning to the game or perhaps looking for a new form of exercise and entertainment. “It has worked wonderfully well,” Geraldine reports “and so we’re running another drive for members in January with a series of four lessons followed by a bit of socialising in the clubhouse with great home cooking and coffee from our new caterer and barista.” Regulars and those who have visited previously know well the fabulous aspect of the course from the clubhouse which can now take in the first stage of a major upgrade. Many of the old trees are being removed to be later followed by replanting and reshaping bunkers. Young pines are available for purchase for those looking for a real Christmas tree and, of course, proceeds are going towards the upgrade – everyone’s a winner. Following the January 8 coaching series, the next major event will be Northland’s most popular ladies event, the two-day Ladies Open which runs the weekend of February 18-19. Mark it down, but remember the field is limited to the first 100 paid entries. |
