Quirky Gallery turns twoNow almost two years old, Paparoa’s quirky White Rock Gallery boasts a myriad of artworks.
The gallery is a collaborative effort by local artists to present a wide variety of creative mediums from painting, sculpture and jewellery, quilting and other fabric based crafts. New members have added mosaics, wood carving and glass painting to a gallery already packed with Kaipara talent. The two year anniversary will be exciting for the community-run gallery, cementing strong opinion that Paparoa is a destination and not just somewhere to pass through. Gallery art is refreshed every eight weeks and the new exhibitions attract the locals back in and encourage tourists to stop in on their travels. The gallery is also working hard, with the help of council grants, to bring art and its many genres to the community with subsidised classes to hone talent and introduce new skills. All works are for sale and the creators are happy to accept suitable private commissions. White Rock Gallery sold approx $17,000 of art and craft in its first year and is on track to match that this year. Visitors looking for a quality gift or a permanent memento of their stay in the Kaipara need to schedule a visit to White Rock Gallery. Make a day and of it and create your own art trail visiting all the interesting artisan places in and around Paparoa – there’s something for everyone. n www.whiterockgallery.co.nz or find them on Facebook. VARIETY: All art works are for sale at White Rock Gallery, Paparoa. |
