Finishing touches for annual walking weekendThe organising team have just completed final arrangements for the 20th annual Mangawhai Walking Weekend. You will be able to find full details from December 1 on the website mangawhaiwalking.co.nz, with 33 walks/events to tempt you. The March 29-31 2019 event brings back favourites from the earliest walking weekend, and a number of easy, short strolls recognising that many supporters are now 20 years older! The short, Sunday walks will enable walkers to join for a celebratory lunch. If you are seeking a more arduous workout join the guides for an 8-hour Brynderwyn tramp. Organisers don’t want to reveal too much but rest assured they have some great walks, water-based events and fabulous entertainers booked for the Food & Wine Festival and Troubadour Trail. Meanwhile if you are a local or in Mangawhai over the holiday period, the Trackies have been busy making life easier for walkers by upgrading the Thelma Rad north track (pictured). Strewn with discarded pine logs and debris and a bit steep in parts, the gang has been clearing and re-aligning the track to bypass the steep section as well as widening the pathway. The pic shows what the intrepid tracks team have to work through making their efforts all the more meritorious. |
