Support Make-A-Wish when it hits the roadBayleys Mangawhai have long been supporters of the Make-A-Wish foundation, supporting children with severe or critical illnesses.
A foundation supporter since 1999, local real estate agent Dianne Christensen organised a fundraising walk last year and is embarking on the same challenge again, inviting others to join her for a good strong walk for a good cause. “It would be good to have company for at least part of the way,” she says “but it’s mainly to bring awareness of the Make-A-Wish movement.” In the month of November any Bayleys staff member or anyone who wants to can sign up to do Walking for Wishes to raise funds for Make-A-Wish. Bayleys joined Make-A-Wish as a major sponsor last year. “I commit to a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, around 8km,” says Dianne. “Then I had this crazy idea to walk the loop from our place in Old Waipu Road, up to the Heads, around Cove Road and back down to the Tavern Market (around 17km) on Saturday November 24.” Vintage Deli at the market are putting up a $50 goodie prize and Oasis Cafe are matching that. Dianne is also running a competition to guess how long the 17km walk will take her. She plans to arrive at the Tavern Markets around 10am so there’s a hint- maybe. The person closest to her time will win a step tracker donated by Dianne. “Anyone who wants to sponsor me a minimum of $10 can put in a guess for how long it will take me and when I arrive at the market. I will have all the details so we can find out the winners. It’s a great cause and also a bit of fun to have company at least part of the way, while making for more awareness. “The monies raised go to local area wishes,” she says. “I delivered a really cute wish in Ruakaka last weekend when a little girl just wanted a real dolls house. Here is the result of her wish (pictured). It’s important for people to see how their donations are being used. However small their contribution may be they all count.” Contact Dianne on 021 741 541 to get your entries in and sponsor her effort, then go in the draw for some very nice prizes generously donated by locals.
