Cadets continue successThe Mangawhai Cadet Unit skills team has had another good win at the recent 2015 Skill at Arms competition held at Ardmore, Auckland, making it eight consecutive wins at the annual event. “The team trained for ten weekends and were very well prepared for the competition,” said Unit Commander Sandra Grayson. “The team won eleven of the twelve stands.”
Stand disciplines included drill, fitness, general service theory, navigation theory and practical, leadership, shooting, firearm safety, casualty evacuation, equipment carry, and observation. Radio communication saw them come third. Warrant Officer Class Two, Caprice Howard, lead the team. “She has amazing leadership skills which has seen her receive the leadership award at regional and national level last year and she was awarded the leadership trophy again this year,” says Unit Commander Grayson. “Whatever she decides to do with her future you can bet her leadership will see her at the top of her game.” Caprice also won the highest scoring cadet for the competition. Staff Sergeant Lewin Bull received a worthy mention, finishing the required fitness level 2.4km run with a time of 6m 34s. The team will continue to train for the National Competition in 3 weeks time.
