19 community organisations to benefit from KDC fundingMore than $180,000 has been awarded in the latest Kaipara District Council funding rounds for
Reserve Contributions Contestable Fund, Rural Travel Fund, and the Creative Communities Scheme. Grants from the Reserve Contributions Contestable Fund make up the bulk of the funding, with $163,750.72 going to five organisations. A change to the Reserves Contributions Policy (as part of the Long Term Plan 2018/2028) resulted in a contestable fund open for public application. Cheviot Street Reserve Group received $3,420 for plants and mulching to enhance biodiversity of the reserve; $31,161.15 to the Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ) for the Junior Pump Track Development; $120,000 to Mangawhai Domain Society for Grounds Development Completion; $1,830 to the Mangawhai Historic Village Trust to replicate and rebuild the Ulrich Gumdiggers Cottage outhouse; and $7,369.57 to the Paparoa Lions Club to complete the Paparoa Lions Bushwalk. Robert de Koning, Chairperson of the Mangawhai Domain Society, said the group was over the moon to receive the funding for ground development. “This is such great news! The Domain is heavily used by all sorts of community groups. We’re so pleased – we have big plans for improving and developing the grounds to meet the demands of our growing population, and this grant means we can kickstart some of those plans.” The latest round of Creative Communities Scheme Funding has seen $10,563.20 awarded to six successful applicants. The Creative Communities Scheme provides funding for communities to be involved in local arts activities. Successful applicants include $2,000 to Baylys Beats for an African drum and dance workshop; $1,658 to Dargaville Arts Association for free painting classes for older teenagers and adults; $1,150 to Maungaturoto Residents Association to fund a free Circus Kumarani workshop, and $2,154.70 to Oliver Knox for TokaFest 2021. Six grants from the Rural Travel Fund have also been awarded. The fund is designed to help subsidise travel for junior sports teams (5 to 19-year-olds) participating in their local competition. A total of $6530.74 was divvied up between sports groups including Aranga School, Dargaville High School, and Otamatea High School.
