October is a time to not only revel in the finer spring weather, it is also a season to ‘Go Pink’ and help eradicate a disease destroying the lives of thousands of New Zealanders.


 

 

 

Te Whai Community Trust hosted a luncheon at the Mangawhai Museum for around 20 senior citizens. The September 26 event saw guests entertained by Just Uked Mangawhai, the local ukelele group led by Jane Yates.

An exhibition of contrasts – urban and rural, watercolour and acrylics, street art and landscapes – highlights the work by two Kaipara artists currently showing at Mangawhai Artists Gallery. Andy Griffiths’ landscapes and seascapes in watercolour capture the beauty of Kaipara.

 

 

Visitors and volunteers to the local library through the chilly winter months have been welcomed by a warm and cosy ambience thanks to a recent funding grant from Kaipara District Council (KDC).

 

 

The Blind Foundation is putting out the call for people to sign up as volunteers for the nationwide Blind Week street collection on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 October. Every year, thousands of volunteers give up a few hours of their time to help raise funds for New Zealanders who are blind or have low vision.

 

 

Mangawhai St John Station manager Andrew Mumford says the organisation is pleased to be adding over 20 Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) in Mangawhai and surrounding areas. 


 

 

 

MAZ committee bullied In response to Alan Preston’s letter (Mangawhai Focus, Sept 17) the removal of a thread from the Mangawhai Local’s Facebook page is not an issue of free speech. To be clear, I am writing this letter as a private citizen. This is not a statement from the Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ) committee.

 

 

An invitation has been extended to the people of Mangawhai and surrounding areas to attend a special birthday celebration of a favourite organisation, where the community actually receives the gifts.
 

 

The Northland Regional Council (NRC) Long-Term Plan 2018-2028 has allocated funding for the period to maintain and build on pest control activities within the Brynderwyns, the adjacent land to the north as far as Waipu and to Mangawhai Heads in the south. 
 

 

A critically acclaimed movie about traditional music, culture and self-expression will have a special screening in Waipu with support of the Waipu Museum and Waipu Caledonian Society.


 

 

Final costings are in from Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) for Mangawhai Fire Brigade’s share towards the extensions required to their building. Plans are with Council pending consent and all going well building is expected to start in November.
 

 

There’s no dress rehearsal for this crazy thing called life – it can be a pain, and a laugh. Local professional performers Alex McKellar and Whitney Channings have united to create Growing Pains - A Cabaret.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mangawhai Beach School Agricultural & Gala Day is held on the Saturday of Labour Weekend each year 9am-1pm. This is the school’s major fundraiser. The event has been running for over 10 years and continues to be a calendar favourite with local families and holidaymakers who look forward to the annual event. 
 

 

 

 

 

 

The Ministry of Health and ACC have announced that they are in the final stages of agreeing a three-year contract with a joint venture between the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (ARHT) and the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST).
