Tractor Day to celebrate machines historyTractor Day at Mangawhai’s Domain on Sunday April 14, 2013, will celebrate one of man’s best loved and useful machines with a display of tractors ancient and modern. The event is being organised by the Mangawhai Historical Society and sponsored by Norwood Farm Machinery Centre of Whangarei as a fundraiser for the new Mangawhai Museum. Tractors have a special place in Mangawhai’s history, without them the Big Dig would not have been possible – when men and their machines saved the harbour by plugging the gap in the sandspit and building the bund wall after successive storms, including Cyclone Bola. The event will start with a tractor cavalcade at the fishing club at Mangawhai Heads and travel to the Mangawhai Domain in the Village where they will be put on display. Organisers have invited owners of veteran, vintage, classic, modern and novelty tractors to participate and a panel of judges will select winners based on their upkeep, mechanical order and general performance. There will also be a display of stationary engines, crawler tractors and ride-on lawn mowers. It promises to be a great day out for the family with a wide range of stalls, non-tractor displays, and entertainment. Anyone who owns a tractor, stationary engine, or ride-on mower, is eligible to enter the event. See more details at www.mangawhai-museum.org.nz or get flyers at Mangawhai Village Garage, Wood Street Garage, Mangawhai Golf Club and Mangawhai Visitor Centre. |
