Students rewarded for achievement
DUX: Danielle Gandela took away top honours for academic excellence. Rodney College’s Senior Academic Prize-giving was held last month with the school hall packed out with parents, students and friends of the college who came along to celebrate the academic successes for 2012. The 2013 student leaders were also announced. Guest speaker, Winston Cowie, who has strong connections with the area, is himself a very high achiever – a lawyer, Oxford University graduate, author and adventurer – and was an inspirational speaker. Prizegivings are about celebrating student successes and there was a lot to celebrate. Numerous scholarships were awarded. Dux and recipient of the Partington Scholarship ($5000) and the University of Canterbury Dux Scholarship ($5000) was Danielle Gandela. Proxime Accessit, David Sheat Memorial Scholarship ($1000), Rodney Local Board Scholarship ($2000) and the Matua Ted Hetaraka Memorial Tauira Motuhake independent student trophy for outstanding overall achievement, Maori student, went to Courtney Brierly. Winstone Aggregates Kaipara Scholarship ($2000) went to Ari Tidyman. The $5000 Rodney College Engineering Scholarship went to Samuel Donnelly, and the Partington Family Scholarship ($5000) was presented to Amanda Crow. First overall in Year 12 was Zak Flintoff, and first overall in Year 11 – was Nicole Harnett. Student Leaders were also named. Head Girl for 2013 is Alana Torrie, Head Boy is Liam Connolly. |
