Commissioners award first contractKaipara District Council has awarded Recreational Services Limited the Parks, Reserves and Cemeteries Maintenance Contract and the Public Toilets and Building Cleaning and Maintenance Contract at its November 12 meeting. These two contracts replace Contract 575 – Maintenance of Parks, Reserves and Recreation Facilities – and are a direct result of a council review into how it could better deliver a number of its services in a more efficient and cost-effective way. General Manager Operations, John Burt, says Takapuna-based Recreational Services will be establishing a service depot within the district and have said they will employ local people wherever possible. “They have the capability and experience to deliver the services we require and already have existing contracts with Whangarei District Council, Far North District Council and Auckland Council in the area north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. They are committed to delivering quality services and working with council to deliver the required outcomes and this means better value for money for the ratepayers of the district.” This was the first contract awarded under the watch of the commissioners. “It has met the tests we have set – falling within budget, and providing an ability to monitor performance, while maintaining the same level of services,” said commissioner chair John Robertson. The contracts, totalling $2.2 million, will commence in mid-December and be for a period of three years. The contract was awarded to Recreational Services Limited following a robust tender process. Recreational Services Limited had the lowest price and was also assessed as being the highest quality bidder. The council received four responses for the contract in respect of parks, reserves and cemeteries maintenance and two responses for the contract in respect of public toilets and building cleaning and maintenance. |
