Dirty Weekends for ORTLike dirty weekends? So does the planning committee of the Otamatea Repertory Theatre. Sorry, we’re talking about Dirty Weekends, a play by Roger Hall and Phillip Norman, auditioning in a few weeks for production next March. Director, Alister Williams, describes it as a play about gardening and other fruitful pleasures (with songs), and is looking for a couple in the 60s and their neighbours (late 20s or so) to anchor the show, as well as a music teacher and her love interest – described in the cast list as ‘voluptuous’ and ‘Irish’ respectively, however Alister says attitude is more important than physique or accent. Also needed is a female ‘garden muse’ to sing and charm the audience, plus two highly versatile performers to play the cat, the dog, the Dean, the judge and various other roles. Last but not least, the pianist, who has to actually accompany the show disguised as various school students taking lessons. At 7pm on the night of December 12, anyone with a passion for earthy matters, who likes to sing – with passion as much as ability – should gather at the Otamatea Repertory Theatre in Bickerstaffe Rd, Maungaturoto and let their inner gardener out.
