Mangawhai produces silver sausageThe Mangawhai Meat Shop has picked up a medal in the recent 2012 Devro NZ Sausage Competition. The nationawide competition run by the Meat Retailing Association includes entries from both small and large retail shops, and from supermarket chains. This year over 450 entries covered the five different categories. While we have come to believe ‘big is good’, maybe small is even better as Daniel and Ange of Mangawhai Meat Shop picked up a silver medal for their smoked kranski. Kranski is a traditional Slovenian sausage made predominantly of pork but these days many variations have come to light in a variety of seasonings and even the addition of cheese cubes. “As new kids on the block this is a great honour for us,” says Dan Klink, gaining a lot of confidence in the knowledge that they are producing a sausage with some national recognition. This is but one of the tasty and interesting delights to be found in the little shop at Mangawhai village – well worth a visit on barbecue weekends and holidays. The competition has been running since 1994 and is proudly supported by Devro and Kerry Ingredients. |
