Fishermen front up for first season competitionThe weather is always likely to be dodgy at this time of year but Labour Weekend fisho’s trusted their luck in the face of a dismal forecast and took to the water on what turned out to be a beautifully fine day on the Saturday for the TimberWorld Mangawhai Boating and Fishing Club Fishing Competition – though fish numbers were only middling. The wind got up on Sunday and the sea was lumpy in parts but numbers and sizes of fish were pretty good making the surplus fish auction hotly contested and putting over $2,200 into club coffers for the future development of the boat ramp area. Prizes too were plentiful and the club offers a big vote of thanks and appreciation to sponsors and donors. Club President Trevor Downey also praised the tenacity of the fishermen who, within reason, will brave long days and almost any conditions in search of the big one. RESULTS
