Further development for village
BENEFITS: Members of the public enjoy a recent Open Day at the Riverview Place retirement village. The Maungaturoto Community Trust has almost finished the new additions to the retirement village in Riverview Place. Four of the six new Own Your Own units have been sold and are occupied by local people, leaving two available to some fortunate retiree’s who will be able to share the benefits of the rural vista while having the adjacent support of a caring and friendly rest home and Coast to Coast Medical centre. Surprisingly it has come to light that there may be some in outlying areas who are unaware of retirement opportunities in the town and the extent and services the village offers. With a view to rectify this, an Open Day over Labour Weekend saw several members of the public stroll around the village, speak to residents, visit the rest home and meet some of the trustees over a cup of tea to ask any questions regarding pending residence. “We had a steady trickle of visitors through the village,” said Trust chairman Don McKay. “People were checking out their options and there was a lot of positive feedback though anyone considering retirement to our village should get their name on the waiting list at the rest home so they may be contacted when vacancies arise.” The Trust welcomes the recent appointment of Ben Heta who, with his wife Cherri, had been working hard to complete the landscaping around the new additions. The Trust holds a public meeting each year to report progress to the public at large. This year’s meeting will be held at the St John hall Maungaturoto, Tuesday November 27 at 1.30pm. |
