New tracks for bikers and hikersA collaboration between the Mangawhai Activity Zone Trust (MAZ), the Mangawhai Tracks Charitable Trust and the Department of Corrections (Community Service Workers) has seen the construction of several kilometres of dual use tracks in Mangawhai Park. Centred on the MAZ, the tracks have been primarily designed for mountain bikers but walkers are encouraged to use them with care. The new tracks, opening Saturday November 10 at the MAZ, focus on family-friendly riding from the almost flat Eucalypt Grove to the rolling Wetland Loop, to the more difficult Museum View track. A more challenging ridge-top track is usable but requires more work on the steep turns and will not be formally opened until a later date. Bikers and walkers are invited to the opening with bikers trying out all new tracks and walkers strolling the MAZ to Last of the Summer Wine link track and on round the loop past the Club and back to the MAZ. Bring your kids, bikes, and walking shoes. Guides will be provided. |
