KSA Sports BriefsOtamatea rugby Even though rugby has finished for the year, work is still going on behind the scenes to prepare for next season. There will be a general meeting at the Sports Complex on Wednesday October 31 at 7.30pm and their AGM will be held at the Complex on Wednesday November 7 at 7.30pm, all welcome. The Otamatea Rugby Club are planning events in 2013 to celebrate their 25th anniversary. A reunion of ex-players is planned – date to be confirmed. Watch this space... Fright Night Our annual Fright Night will be held on Saturday October 27 from 7.30pm. This is a fun evening out for kids and adults alike! Come dressed up in your scariest costume – prizes for best dressed boy, girl and adult. As part of the evening we transform the pavilions downstairs changing rooms into a 'haunted house' which children can walk through. This year we will have two sessions: an earlier session for the younger children and then dial up the fright-factor for a later session for the older children. So, if you have any ideas of ways we can make this experience extra scary, then I would love to hear from you! Give me a call on 4312 051. Soccer Thank you to Janine Gilmore from Sport Northland who organised a successful junior soccer tournament at the Complex recently. Fifteen teams from our local primary schools competed. Winners of the tournament were Kaiwaka 2, who won all of their games. Senior netball Our senior netball club, Otamatea-Ex, will hold their end of season prizegiving at the Complex on Friday October 26 at 5pm. Planting at the Complex We have undertaken many improvements around our grounds over the last few years and one of the projects we have tackled recently is clearing the scrub from below the gymnasium. This has been planted with natives with thanks to a grant from the Kaipara District Council Biodiversity Fund. Thank you to everyone who helped with this project – Mark Hodgetts, Mark Ottaway, Bruce Ferguson, Evan Wright and the workers from PD. Agricultural Day The Kaiwaka School Agricultural Day will be held at our Complex on Friday October 19 from 9am. Why not come along to support our youngsters with their animals. Then Group Day (the regional Agricultural Day) will be held at the Complex on Saturday November 3. Christmas functions Is it too early to be thinking about Christmas? If you are looking for somewhere to hold your work or family Christmas function, we have very reasonable hireage rates at the Sports Complex. We offer a quality venue complete with kitchen, bar, deck, a spacious lounge with dance floor and plenty of parking and we can also even take care of your catering. To make a booking give me a call on (09) 431 2051. Advance notice Looking ahead to next year, our annual Otamatea Tennis Tournament will be held on Anniversary Weekend in January, so why not dust off that tennis racquet and get in some practice! And our multi-sport event, the Top of the Rock, will be on Sunday February 10. More details over the coming months. Cheryl Anderson, Kaiwaka Sports Assoc. manager, 431 2051 |
