Summer treat a cool idea
We wouldn’t believe it was nearly summer without Labour Weekend and we couldn’t enjoy a long Labour Weekend without ice cream. Hooray for Ice Cream by Emily! From Friday, October 19, Emily Bennett (pictured) will open her little sweet and tasty soft-serve parlour in a corner of the courtyard at the Bennetts of Mangawhai complex. Emily has a year of University studies to go in which to complete her chemistry degree, but in the meantime ‘a girl’s gotta eat’ and that means working, so a little Kiwi ingenuity has transformed a little corner hideaway into a spot that will no doubt be much sought after as the summer progresses. “It’s only a small space,” says Emily “and I didn’t want to take on more than can be handled by one or two people so I’m concentrating on making it a summer fiesta of fruity ice cream.” Sweet and fruity flavours will include raspberry, strawberry, mixed berry, chocolate and, of course, if you like, Bennetts’ genuine chokky flakes will put the ‘icing on the cake.’ Ice Cream by Emily will be open seven days over the whole of summer from 10am. So now not only will Bennetts have the allure of coffee and café fare, and the chocolatiere for Mums and Dads but there’s now something to keep the kids happy that will ‘lick’ most other forms of amusement. But there’s more. With the regular artists, muso’s and markets in the courtyard, Bennetts is pretty much a one-stop shop for a casual day of family food and entertainment. - Rob Pooley |
