Museum treasures worth the trip
From Beve Smith
With a good turnout of Probus members and eight visitors, we arrived at the museum at about 10.30am, making our way on our own or in pairs around its wonderfully laid out award-winning displays. Entries to the Kaipara Art Awards were on display at the museum. We saw some lovely works by artists you will know from Mangawhai – Ann Howard, Marie Flavell, Alene Featherstone, Pauline Toye, Barry Clark, Jeannette Vickers, Malcolm Roberts, Angela and Arran Hockenhull. What a lovely display – the workmanship was amazing. A nice lunch at the Gumdiggers Café followed. Beth and Norman Dalebrook travelled all the way from Whangarei and Evelyn Rafferty drove from the Brynderwyns to join us at the museum – lovely to see them there. The bus left Matakohe at 2.00 pm and we were all home in Mangawhai about 3.00 pm. A very big ‘thank you’ to Joe, our bus driver from Leabourns. We wish our friends who were unable to join us today due to illness, a speedy recovery.
