Brigade fundraiser heating up

Adding to entertainment in town next month, the Fire Up Mangawhai fundraising events are coming up at the golf club over Labour Weekend. 

There is an ongoing need for funding for the essential service that is the volunteer fire brigade, and Mangawhai Aucklander Annie Kitchener has taken it upon herself to single-handedly put together a weekend of fundraising, fun-raising entertainment aimed at community support for the purchase of an auxiliary vehicle for the brigade. 

Three events are planned, all of which involve community participation.

“We really need Mangawhai folk to start booking now – especially for the Quiz Night at the golf club on the Saturday,” says organiser Annie Kitchener. “This is a major event with lots of great prizes but must be pre-booked as it is limited to 100 people.”

Saturday October 20

Quiz Night: Lucky spot prizes. Professionally run by Quiz Host at the wonderful local Mangawhai Golf Club. Teams of 6. Tickets include light supper. 

Sunday October 21

The all-weather Fireman’s Run: Mangawhai style. Approximately 3-5km. A run/jog with route clues that will utilise beach, tracks, steps, foothpaths with entrants to be encumbered with 10kg weighted backpacks and heavy weather coats. Females welcome – 5kg weighted packs.

Trip-a-Trail with a Dog Friend: Taking in one of Mangawhai’s renowned walking trails. ‘Treasure’ in the form of paper bones hidden en route will be exchanged for doggy giveaways and more once the end of walk is reached. If you haven’t a dog, a human friend to accompany you would be welcome.
