Busy week for Waipu linksSHOOTOUT: The Whangarei Boys High School champs (from left) coach Quenton Diment, Luke Brown, Chase McKeown, Sean Masters, Kadin Neho, and manager Phil Eady. Waipu Golf Club has played host to a couple of national events recently. Locals Whangarei Boys High School (pictured) have won the New Zealand Secondary Schools Final by five shots from Canterbury’s St. Bedes College. The event was reduced to an 18 hole shootout due to heavy rain and strong winds. Following this was the NZ National Men’s Age Group Championships, won by Tyler Hodge from Levin who is the first Kiwi golfer to win both the Australian Age Group and New Zealand Age Group titles in the same year. He said he was leaving the Waipu Links with great memories. “I had never been here before but I love it now. The greens are in perfect condition, one of the best I have ever played on really. I’d love to come back and play here.” The club would like to acknowledge the support of local businesses Westpac Bank, Waipu ITM, Ruakaka Supervalue, MVB Electrical and Tip Top General Foods. |
