Have your say on Mangawhai Park future plansDISCUSSION: A scale model of Mangawhai Park’s proposed acticity centre. Mangawhai residents are being asked to keep some time free on Saturday September 29 to take part in the Mangawhai Park steering committee’s Open Day at The Club between 10am and 3pm. The Park as a whole is developing thanks to many tireless workers and donors, with the international-class MAZ now operational, walking and cycle tracks being developed, the museum getting closer to completion by the day, and discussions on-going regarding the siting of the St John Ambulance building for which funding has been set aside. It is important that the public come along to put ideas forward on the overall plan for the park, say members of the committee One community–minded resident has prepared a scale model to be displayed at the meeting. The model shows several options of what could be included in the park, which, along with the facilities already established, could make Mangawhai the envy of many similar small communities. Weekenders and holidaymakers, who are coming to Mangawhai in increasing numbers, will also benefit. Facilities in the model include a cafe, gym and fitness centre, badminton or squash courts and even a swimming pool – that’s right, a swimming pool. Those with a vision of the completed Mangawhai Park see it as a unique activities and entertainment centre and a further catalyst towards bridging the gap which now exists geographically between the Village and the Heads. And while the model may not be adopted in it’s present state it will no doubt be the topic of much discussion which is an important place from which any future plan should start. |
