Community joins for another successful Daffodil Day

Daffodil-Day-2012
BIG SUPPORT: Over 130 people enjoy the annual Mangawhai Daffodil Day morning tea at the golf club.

Once again the people of Mangawhai and Kaiwaka showed their generosity, raising a grand total of $7400 for the Daffodil Day Cancer Society Appeal through street collection, donation boxes at local businesses, raffle voucher and annual morning tea.

Organisers want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported the cause this year – all volunteers at the Four Square stores in Mangawhai and Kaiwaka and a special thanks to Gay Young for organising the appeal in Kaiwaka.

Over 130 people turned up at the Mangawhai Golf Club to support the annual Daffodil Day morning tea held on Wednesday August 29, decorated in theme colours with daffodil flowers sponsored again by local identity Gerda De Boer. Over $3,000 was raised.

Organiser Dorothy Freeman, commonly known as the daffodil lady, said she was delighted with the response to the morning tea, now in its eighth year.

Dorothy paid tribute to those who helped to make this years event the success it was: Val & Rob Cleaver, Ted Tuffey, Neville &  Nicolette Franks, Pat & David Scott, Jean Goldschmidt, Jean Creighton, Dave and the Mangawhai Golf Club, everyone who brought a plate for the morning tea and a gift for the brown bag raffle, a very special thanks to Margaret from Sail Rock Cafe for the savouries and chocolate brownie, and Mark at Heads FM for advertising the morning tea regularly throughout the month of August.

“Mangawhai would have the highest ratio of volunteers of any place in New Zealand and would be amongst the most generous towns on a population basis,” says Dorothy Freeman.
