Fundraisers let their hair downCLOSE SHAVE: A brave group of fundraisers have joined the ranks of the folically challenged in the interests of cancer research. From left, Tamsyn Farr, Mike Stevens, Ty Stevens, Simon Drinkrow, and Rafe Macdonald get used to their new look Though the weather was cold at last Saturday’s Mangawhai markets there was a warm feeling as this Mangawhai quintet went under the clippers of Sean Barnett to emerge bareheaded in the interests of raising money for cancer research and treatment. All participants had something to lose though none more so than the long flowing locks of Ty Stevens. Donations on the day amounted to $700, with another $100 collected since, plus a great return from Ty’s hair which will be used in wig making – the total is expected to be over $1,400. A great effort! Ty has adapted very well to her short hairstyle and everyone thinks she looks even more beautiful! Parents Mike and Carol-Ann agree, adding: “It’s going to save us heaps in hair care products, not to mention we can now get in the shower again.” |
