The Club to host cancer fundraiserBY JULIA WADE
A coming event focused on raising funds for cancer research and support is offering locals a chance to dress up fancy, indulge in fine dining as well as inspiring an early spring clean of wardrobes and kitchen cupboards. In a multi-beneficial event The Mangawhai Club (TMC) will host a Daffodil Day fundraiser on August 30 combining a High Tea with a Car-to-Bar clothing and accessories sale, as well as household appliances, further helping to keep unwanted domestic devices out of landfill. TMC manager Joanne Keating says the event serves as an opportunity to declutter kitchen cupboards and storage space, and contribute to a great cause while having a good time. “It’s a chance to put on a nice frock and good shirt and get rid of all those items that you’ve been given and are gathering dust,” she says. “We’re aiming to raise $7000 on the day from ticket sales, the clothing and appliances as well as a silent auction and raffles with some fabulous prizes, the community has been extremely generous.” Raffles include an adrenaline-packed ride for three on New Zealand’s highest parasail with Bay of Islands company Flying Kiwi, which carries thrill-seekers up to 1300 feet. Kaipara musician Jone Yelcich will provide musical entertainment and guest speaker Jonathon Green, a representative from the Puhoi to Warkworth highway, will present an update on the project including drone footage and rehoming of animals. The Mangawhai Club will be open to accept donated items from August 20. |
