NZ Open winner to play Mangawhai Pro-AmLast weekend's stunning victory by Michael Hendry at the New Zealand Golf Open was widely celebrated by Mangawhai locals. Hendry will play in the Partners Life Mangawhai Pro-Am on Tuesday March 28 and his presence will be a major highlight of the event say organisers. Other well-known NZ golfers who will compete at Mangawhai include Josh Geary, Brad Shilton, Grant Moorhead, Mark Brown, Martin Pettigrew and Harry Bateman, ensuring a very strong field and providing a rare opportunity to see elite players in action on a highly regarded championship course. Mangawhai Golf Club manager Steve Hinton heads a team that is working closely with Partners Life to ensure the success of the day. “We're delighted to have Partners Life on board,” he says. “They've really got behind the event and we look forward to this becoming an annual feature on the New Zealand Pro-Am calendar for years to come. Already, a lot of playing groups have been entered and we're well advanced with our overall planning to make this a stand-out event.” Established in August 2010, Partners Life entered the market with a fresh innovative offering for the protection of New Zealand families and businesses. With unprecedented growth since launch, Partners is now one of the most substantial competitors in the New Zealand life insurance industry. Products include life insurance, income protection, medical insurance, disability insurance, trauma cover and business risk protection. Mangawhai is a sand-based layout that meanders through natural golfing country featuring sand dunes, wetlands and an attractive mix of native flora and fauna. Although not overly long, it is a course that more than justifies its reputation as each hole demands accuracy and precision from every shot. Home to what many top golfers regard as the toughest Par 4 in New Zealand, the dogleg 2nd, the Mangawhai course continues to develop and evolve. “Our greens are always great,” states Hinton, “and they'll be running fast and true. Although the Pro-Am will be in late Summer, rent rain means we're confident of having great grass coverage on our fairways and the recent completion of stage one of our course development programme has created some challenging new vistas on several holes.” Mangawhai has also been chosen as the venue for the November 2017 Toro Men's Interprovincial Championships and planning is well underway to make the prestigious tournament a resounding success both on and off the course.
