21 Nov, 2022
One of Mangawhai’s expert periodontal providers has received a bit of a polish due to the recent addition of two highly-qualified dental hygienists joining the local professional team. Located a few steps east from Mangawhai Domain along Moir Street, Dental Domain’s friendly crew of skilled dentists, dental surgeons, assistants and customer care support staff, are excited to announce the arrival of Carmen Phillips-Cato and Kim Prater, who have come on board to help ensure clients keep receiving the ultimate in dental care. Since graduating from the University of Otago in 1995, Mangawhai local Carmen brings over 20 years of experience to the practise and has specialist periodontal experience and knowledge. She says she loves treating patients and helping them achieve their maximum in oral health. “I believe in building a good rapport with patients, to ensure they feel comfortable, and a large part of my role at Dental Domain involves talking to patients about their oral hygiene regimen and helping them improve aspects of their self-care including flossing, dietary advice and smoking cessation.” Particularly trained in the prevention and treatment of gum disease, Kim has gained over 15 years dental experience after also graduating from University of Otago with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 2007. “I find transforming the mouth very rewarding, all the treatment I carry out is a gentle approach specifically tailored to patient’s needs. I’m experienced in both take-home and in-house tooth whitening and take pride in treating and preventing periodontal disease and gingivitis as well as providing dietary and oral hygiene instruction.” Besides enjoying their careers and looking after their patients, both women relish Mangawhai’s outdoor splendour, either having adventures with their families, especially ‘the fabulous beaches we have on our doorstep at Mangawhai’ Kim says, and Carmen is often found in the paddock with her horses or tending her garden. The accomplished dental hygienists are also registered members of the NZ Dental Hygienists Association. Dental Domain has been looking after local teeth since the practise was established in 2018 and owner, dentist Dr. Karthik Mohan, who also owns Wellsford Dental, is proud of the fabulous team of clinicians and excellent support staff who ‘share my passion and love for dentistry’. “We are dedicated to bringing excellence and work very hard to have outstanding patient rapport,” he says. “When patients choose Dental Domain, they’re choosing a dental practise of high integrity, strong technical experience and commitment to world-class dental care… we are artists, engineers, and creators of beautiful smiles.”
