Domain to benefit from riparian plantingThe Mangawhai Riparian Planting Group has obtained a grant from the Mangawhai Endowment Lands Account (Kaipara District Council) earlier this year. The grant is currently being used to get rid of pest plants – bamboo (se river bank above), wattle and several flame trees – along the river, behind the plunket rooms in the Mangawhai Domain. In this space, a mixture of riparian planting will take place on the morning of Saturday, September 16. Most of the native trees will be medium-sized shrubs which will not prevent car viewing along the Mangawhai-Kaiwaka road, not shade the nearby community gardens, and plants will be suitable for placement along the river when it periodically floods. Any willing helpers are encouraged to come along, bring a spade, old gardening shoes and help locate around 300 plants. Plants are being supplied by Rural Design, Kaiwaka, and will be delivered early that morning. n Planting day, Saturday September 16, 9am - midday.
