Mangawhai maestro of meat to defend title

Winner of last year’s Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition supreme award, Dan Klink of Mangawhai Meat Shop, is again stepping up to defend his title.

With a string of medals, silver in 2014 and gold in 2015 the supreme award in 2016 was just reward for consistency, but now the hard task is defending the title.

Dan has submitted another string of several flavours which cover multiple categories, but with eating habits changing markedly it is no simple task to satisfy the judges in what they consider a winning product that will also appeal to the public at large.

Final judging will be held at Shed 10, Queen’s Wharf, Auckland, August 30.

New Zealand Butcher of the year is another competition that has attracted Dan’s attention. His performance in the Upper North competition has seen him into the final which includes around a dozen different categories.

Butchers must impress the judges by presesnting pork, beef and chicken in variety of novel and tasty ways adaptable to modern cuisine.

Locals will no doubt be pleased to sample any new inventions or innovations coming across the counter at the popular Mangawhai Meat Shop, Mangawhai village shops.
