Ed Said - Our reason for the season
It’s fairly certain that shepherds were not out watching their flocks by night in Jerusalem on December 25, but does that really matter? What’s important to Christian-thinking people is they observe and celebrate the birth of our Creator.

Court dismisses appeal
The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal brought by the Mangawhai Ratepayers and Residents Association (MRRA) against a High Court ruling regarding rates levied for the Kaipara District Council’s Mangawhai Community Wastewater Scheme (MCWWS).
The ruling, released last Thursday, has found in favour of the Council and the Court of Appeal has also ruled the MRRA must pay the Council’s costs.
Remember goodwill towards fairy terns
Please remember that on the Mangawhai sandspit in the harbour we have many breeding birds. The main one is the fairy tern and there are only 40 left in the world. At present they and many other shore birds are nesting there and need to be given a chance to raise young in peace.

Worzels World - A Hitchhikers Guide to Stranger Danger
In my boyhood, after years of frustration at always arriving late, I gave up allowing my mother to drop me off anywhere. I would often pack my kit and strike out early on a Saturday morning. Rugby boots laced through the handles of my bag I would hitchhike. I have hitchhiked at odd times since and I can testify that a 12-year-old going to footy gets more lifts than a gnarly middle aged man.
Golfing great earns pride of place
In something of a coup, the Mangawhai Golf Club are proud possessors of a valuable keepsake. A framed trophy of wonder-golfer Lydia Ko, including the glove and practice ball she was using at the time she announced her graduation to the professional ranks, now occupies pride of place within the club
