Beach festival support for cycle and walkwayThe newly started Waipu Cycle and Walkway from the town to the Cove (pictured above) is being bolstered by a community fun afternoon at the Cove on January 15 at 4pm.
Already the amount of walkway completed is proving popular with trampers doing the Aoatearoa Walk. So far it stretches a short way along Cove Road but will in future go the whole 11km from Waipu township to the Cove reserve. To boost funds, a beach festival will be a great way for all the family to join in with the sandcastle competition, treasure hunt and kids races. There will also be music for the more sedate with Zara and Bruce Clarke playing your favourites. A volleyball competition is on the programme as is soccer on the reserve. Hot dogs and chips along with drinks and a sausage sizzle will keep the kids satisfied. Keep an eye out for the wildly colourful bikes dotted over the landscape in the most unlikely places – these will heralding this wonderful event down at the Cove. n Waipu Cycle and Walkway Beach Festival, Waipu Cove beach reserve, January 15 at 4pm.
