Rod Run to tour into townOn Sunday January 3, the drone of over 150 classic cars and hot rods will send a shudder through Mangawhai Village and assemble at the Domain on their eighth annual hot rod and classic car pilgrimage.
“We’ve simply outgrown the school grounds,” says organiser Sandra Brunt “and with this many cars they can’t tour around like they used to because they take up so much road.” No doubt the public will be keen to follow the entourage and viewing will be from 9.30am to around 11am when bonnets will be up and all the serious car talk, reminiscing and chin-stroking will take place. These are not just cars but, in many cases, an owners lifetime work in restoring, refurbishing and modifying. Contrary to popular opinion cars are not just a guy thing either. Many couples share their car passion and a number of the fairer sex are every bit as well versed as their partners in their knowledge of what goes on under the hood. On leaving the Domain, the cavalcade will tour steadily around the coast to Waipu, do a loop around Shoemaker Rd, SH1 then back through the town before heading back to their base in Black Swamp Rd, Mangawhai to renew acqaintences with fellow rodders. |
