Walking into a rocking weekend

Daughter of Ally logo 2-760Well, we now know what walkers like best. The ‘Bloke’s Sheds’ and ‘Garden Spectacular’ are completely sold out.

For early arrivals and those who like to amble, chat and enjoy an eclectic mix of music and talent, the Troubadour walk is not to be missed. This year’s ‘Troubadour Trail’ on Friday April 1 is going to be a knockout.

The co-ordinator has organised some fabulous talent culminating with the surprise act of Shane and the Shazam Band. If you would like to join in, consider booking for the 2.30pm or 3pm departures (if suitable of course.) These sessions are not as crowded as the 3.30pm departure.

Remember, if you have not already ordered your ticket to the Food & Wine Festival you can pick one up from Bammas or Mangawhai Books & Gifts until 12 noon Saturday April 2. Although tickets are available at the gate on Insley Street, we would hate it if any of our loyal Walking Weekenders missed out on a ticket.

The good news is that there are still have great walks over both Saturday and Sunday available with lighter Sunday bookings in general for those who would prefer to book a smaller group experience. If you are undecided, please call and if your first choice of walk is full, organisers will surely be able to find a walk for you and your group that you haven’t experienced before that will be suitable for your interests and abilities.

Over 150 are enthusiastically standing by to make this year’s event the best ever.

Food & Wine Festival

Once you’re over the sore feet and heat of Saturday’s walks, what better way to relax and let your hair down than to the rhythms of ‘Daughters of Ally’ at the Food & Wine Festival. Not a familiar name yet, but two sisters with incredible talent who will bring all your favourite cover songs to life.

'Daughters of Ally' are Jessie and Georgina Matthews who have been singing together since Georgina was 7-years-old and have currently reformed and are taking the New Zealand music scene by storm. They are an absolutely amazing vocal duo to watch live, and take massive musical risks but their combined harmonies will leave the audience spellbound and with a show that has to be seen to be believed.

Both are shy girls, but once they take to the stage they will blow you out of your seat with their powerhouse vocals, crazy harmonies and silly on-stage antics. There’s nothing like family performing together, and these two ladies are a class act.

Please note: No hay bales this year so bring your picnic blankets and chairs, be early and grab a good spot. n Enquiries and bookings mangawhaiwalking.co.nz or call Dorothy on (09) 431 5534.
