Schools swap mobile phones for rewards

 

Sustainable Coastlines’ RE:MOBILE mobile phone recycling scheme is a campaign where schools gain fantastic rewards from collecting unwanted mobile phones.

Sustainable Coastlines is a young, multi award winning New Zealand charity run by a small team of hard working staff and a network of passionate volunteers and interns. Their mission is to inspire, educate and enable others to look after our coastlines and waterways.

You can get involved by dropping your unwanted mobile phones into collection boxes located in the office at any of the following schools registered in the campaign: Dargaville Intermediate, Dargaville Primary, Selwyn Rd School Dargaville, Mangawhai Beach School, Matakana School, Ruakaka School, Tomarata School, Warkworth Primary and Wellsford Primary. All schools are welcome to register for the campaign by emailing kateb@swapkit.co.nz or call the Sustainable Coastlines office on 09 377 4750 with your school address and contact details to receive a collection pack.

“The mobile phone recycling scheme has raised over $2.5 million for the Starship Foundation,” says Swapkit’s Wendy Nesbit. “Although we were very sad to end our partnership with Starship we are thrilled to have relaunched with Sustainable Coastlines.”

With 69 percent of New Zealand’s rivers deemed unsafe for swimming after rainfall due to contamination and 77 percent of single use plastics being the worst offenders in the marine environment, the cleaning up our of water and beaches is important work that we can support through mobile phone recycling in a school near you.
